Palawa x OPF
Country/Region: lutruwita (Tasmania)
Status: Active partnership | Community-led | DGR1-eligible projects
About the Partnership
Our relationship with Palawa community partners in lutruwita is grounded in collaboration, cultural authority, and a shared commitment to strengthening cultural knowledge through contemporary creative practice.
OPF works alongside Palawa organisations, Elders, knowledge holders, and community members to support the documentation, protection, and continuation of language, stories, and cultural practice in ways determined by community priorities.
Community-Led Projects & Focus Areas
Together, we support cultural documentation, digital storytelling, and education initiatives that centre Palawa voices and knowledge systems. All projects are led by community authority, ensuring Palawa people retain ownership and control over their stories, language, and cultural materials.
Our collaborative work in lutruwita connects language, story, and Country through creative, educational, and technological practice.
Lutruwita AR Cultural Archives: A series of AR-enabled cultural archives developed with Palawa partners, embedding language, stories, and cultural knowledge into place-based digital experiences.
Youth Learning & Skills Programs: Community-led workshops and programs supporting young people to engage with culture through media, storytelling, and creative technologies.
Multimedia Documentation: Film, audio, and visual documentation of language, stories, and cultural practice, developed for community use, education, and future generations.
Cultural Resource Development: Early-stage and ongoing development of Palawa language and cultural learning resources, combining design, audio, and visual media to support everyday cultural transmission.
Governance & Protocols
All projects are guided by palawa Elders and community representatives. Permissions are sought and granted through proper channels, with OPF acting in a supportive and facilitative role.
Ownership of cultural materials remains with the community, and all documentation follows Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles — ensuring control, access, and benefit stay with Nharangga people.
